Coaches Garrett Blair and Jake Orr-Zody are supervising a new powerlifting club at McClain High School. Powerlifting is a sport where student-athletes compete in three major lifts: squats, deadlift, and bench. There are currently 10-15 participants in the new club, which concludes with a state meet in March.
Blair said that the club is a positive addition at McClain because "hard work is a privilege and a requirement for success, and therefore, powerlifting gives our students another opportunity to work hard and compete."
The club is currently looking to compete at the meets in Piketon and Danville, and Blair said that if there are meets scheduled within a closer proximity, they will take advantage of those opportunities as well.
Powerlifting practices are held in the weight room right after school and end around 4 to 4:30 pm Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. If you would like to join the club, come to one of these practices or attend a 6 am session Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.
