Brew’d Awakening, McClain’s new coffee bar, is now open and getting great reviews.

“I got a hot caramel latte and I (would definitely) recommend it,” senior Cheyenne Watson said. “Being able to get breakfast at the same time is a plus, too.”

The coffee bar opened Oct. 16, and now serves customers from 7-8 a.m. and 12:12-12:45 p.m.

Dorothy Balzer, Greenfield’s cafeteria supervisor, came up with the idea to start the coffee bar to get more students to eat breakfast. Others involved with Brew’d Awakening are Chelsi Ertel, Gary Grate, Shelley Smith, and Debbie Burgess.

Brew’d Awakening became a possibility thanks to a grant the district received to increase high school breakfast participation. The proceeds made at Brew’d Awakening will go toward cafeteria expenses.

The coffee bar will have some things other than coffee available very soon, with seasonal specials in the works. Coffees (hot and cold), teas, lemonade, bottled water and double-double hot chocolate is already available.

“They have very tasteful teas!” sophomore Sederick Brigner said.

While sophomore Libby Williams and junior Hannah Carter said they love the coffee bar, they both also said they’d like to see different sizes available.

The coffee bar is considering adding a suggestion box at their location and one on the website. There is also going to be a grand opening soon, which may include some surprises.
