The power may have gone out this morning, but Miss.Bolender and Mrs.Dreher’s class stayed fully charged with some outdoor reading time!⚡️📚 We grabbed our books, headed outdoors, and turned an unexpected outage into some peaceful playground-style reading time.🌳 Sometimes the best learning moments happen when things don’t go as planned!☺️

Mrs. Shrout’s seventh graders ate grasshoppers today since they have been reading nonfiction articles about insect nutrition in their ELA classes.
We also read an article today from “How They Croaked.” We found out how King Tut died and the Egyptian burial practices.

In Mrs. Black, Mrs. Dreher, and Miss Bolender’s eighth grade ELA classes, students explored the topic of animal testing today through a powerful visual-thinking routine: What do you see, think, and wonder? Using a series of compelling images, students observed closely, shared their thoughts, and asked meaningful questions that pushed their thinking deeper.
This routine helped students begin forming strong ideas as they prepared to write about whether animal testing is justifiable or unethical. Our eighth graders were highly engaged, discussed, debated, and developed thoughtful claims to use in their quick-writes.
We are proud of their curiosity, critical thinking, and willingness to explore multiple sides of a complex issue!

Students in 6th-8th grade took part in this year’s Veterans Day Poster Contest, showcasing their creativity and patriotism through art that honors the brave men and women who served our country.
The McClain Cadet Corps proudly selected the winning poster. Congratulations to Brooklyn Simmons for capturing the true spirit of honoring our veterans!

The middle school will be running a food drive starting on Monday, November 10th. All items will be donated to the GACC Food Pantry. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Join us in supporting those in need. Go Tigers!

Miss Thieman’s health class created comics to illustrate various scenarios that would require first aid.

Students in Ms. Lagorio's class went to BTG Legacy Ranch in New Vienna. They learned about horses, cows, and some basics about riding and roping. They also enjoyed homemade ice cream made by our wonderful hosts, Ben and Calyx. We are looking forward to another visit in the spring!

In honor of Veterans Day, Mrs. Black and Miss Bolender’s eighth grade English Language Arts classes are using their writing skills to make a real difference. Students are composing heartfelt thank you letters to deployed servicemen currently stationed in Kuwait, expressing their gratitude for the sacrifices made to protect our freedoms.
Through this special writing activity, students are not only practicing the art of letter writing, but also learning the importance of kindness, appreciation, and service to others. Their messages remind those serving far from home how much they are valued, respected, and remembered, especially during this season of honoring our veterans.
Congratulations to Ray Keeton for winning the Write in Red: Red Ribbon Essay Contest. Ray will receive a $100 cash prize and be eligible for one of the five countywide $500 scholarships. Great job, Ray!

Mrs. Shrout’s students shared their area legends and scary stories around “the campfire” today for language arts. We set the mood with campfires and lighting and listened to awesome storytellers.

Due to the threat of inclement weather tomorrow, we are moving downtown for lunch to next week for the middle school students who purchased it with their PAWS bucks. We will inform parents of the new day once it is scheduled. As a reminder, all parents are sent the daily announcements through email as well. Have a great evening. Go Tigers!
Congratulations to our middle school students who earned honor roll or perfect attendance for the first quarter! Go Tigers!

Students in Miss.Bolender's class worked to complete a crucial part of their recent writing project in class on Friday. Students are writing persuasive pieces and creating a presentation to present to the class convincing a candy company to buy and sell a candy that they have created. In class on Friday, students took sketch renderings of their candy and converted them using AI into real product images to include in their final presentations to their classes next week. The results were UNREAL and we are so proud of their efforts!

Next week is Red Ribbon Week! Please participate in the theme days! As a reminder, there is no school on Friday!

Sixth grade math students with no missing assignment and a passing grade got to celebrate the end of the nine weeks with cotton candy! 🐯

Students in Ms. Lagorio's class went on a field trip to the Appalachian Forest Museum, located in Bainbridge. Students were able to explore a cave and hike to the Three Sisters, a unique rock formation at the end of the Etawah Woods Trail and part of the Rocky Fork Gorge, an impressive steep-walled dolomite canyon. Students were also provided a short lecture by a volunteer of the forest museum about the three types of rock (igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary) with a hands-on focus of the rocks they would see that day on their hike.
