After careful consideration of the cold temperatures forecasted for tomorrow, our district will be closed Tuesday, January 21, 2025. One of the primary factors considered is the number of students, along with their parents and guardians, who walk to school. Other districts in our area may not have any, or very few, students who have to walk to school. Each district must consider many factors when making decisions regarding delays and closings. A decision regarding the schedule for Wednesday, January 22, will be communicated tomorrow afternoon. How do snow days work? Technically, our expectation for attendance from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is not based on days. Instead, it is based on hours. Districts can still choose to implement policies in which, for example, students make up days missed after having a specified number of calamity days. The length of our district’s school day allows for a “buffer”, keeping us from having to make up days missed for a specified period of time. The number of hours required for students varies based on their grade level band. The hours we are not in session are monitored, and should we get to the point where we will be making up hours missed, we will communicate that information in advance. Due to the wind that is expected overnight and in the early morning, which is already causing deteriorating road conditions, the Greenfield Exempted Village School District will be on a two-hour delay Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Please remember that breakfast will not be served. Also, for those parents of children in grades 1-6 who are participating in the youth cheer clinic, forms were sent home with students yesterday. The completed form and payment can be returned to your child’s school office by tomorrow, or you can attend the in-person sign-up scheduled for tomorrow from 5:00 until 6:00 at Greenfield Elementary. With the snow forecasted to begin in the early afternoon, we do not want to risk the safety of our students, families, and staff. Our district will be on a two-hour delay today, Thursday, December 12, 2024. There will be no morning preschool, and breakfast will not be served.

Constructed in 1915, the McClain High School auditorium has been a treasure in our community for over one hundred years, hosting countless performances and events leading to memories that last a lifetime. While its history is rich, time has taken its toll after the renovations made almost 40 years ago. We now have a unique opportunity to restore and enhance this iconic space for future generations. Our revitalization project will focus on upgrading the sound and lighting systems and replacing the seating, carpet, and curtains. These updates will honor the building’s historic charm while ensuring that it continues to meet the needs and support the experiences of current and future performers. Information from the October 30, 2024 all-call: There will be no school for students on Friday, November 1, 2024 as it is a professional development day for teachers. Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, November 6 and Thursday, November 7. You should have received information about how to schedule a conference, but if you have questions, please contact the school office in the building where your child attends. We would love to see all parents and guardians for a conference. The Greenfield Middle School McClain FFA Chapter will be holding a Trunk-or-Treat event tomorrow evening, October 31, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Please do not park in the lot next to the Imagination Kingdom, the lot on the greenhouse side of the vocational building, or the lot on the Lafayette Street side of the vocational building after 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. The event is open to the community and will be held rain or shine. If the event is moved indoors, it will be held in our cafetorium. Registration to participate in this event as a treat provider has closed, so we will not be adding anyone additional at this time. Information from the 10-16-24 all-call: Tomorrow, October 17, 2024, we will be having a previously scheduled two-hour early dismissal. There will be no afternoon preschool, and transportation from school to home for morning preschool students will not be provided. Also, as previously scheduled, there will be no school for students on Friday, October 18, 2024. Tomorrow is the last day of the first quarter. Look for report cards to be sent home next week.
