September's newsletter coming home in bookbags today!

September is Attendance Awareness Month. Good attendance has an impact on the success of students. We will be sharing different facts and resources during the month that can be helpful for parents. If you are looking for resources, check out https://awareness.attendanceworks.org/.

Mrs. Vesey’s first grade students worked in partners today to practice addition using part-part-whole terminology.
Partner1 holds up a stick of cubes, they used five for today.
Partner 2 counts the stick and says the number (5) and closes eyes
Partner one breaks the cube stick into two parts (example 2&3) and holds one part behind back (3).
Partner 2 opens eyes and partner 1 shows what’s left in their hand (2)
Partner 2 has to guess what’s behind the other partners back (3).
Easy to play with anything at your household to practice addition and subtraction concepts!

New Greenfield Elementary School Series-
The things we find in book bags!

The kindergarten students at Greenfield Elementary rang the victory bell yesterday to mark the beginning of their first school year.
Kindergartners were assembled Thursday morning, Aug. 25 for this occasion.
All four kindergarten classes had a chance to pull the rope and watch the bell swing back and forth in the tower. It was a great way to celebrate the first week of their formal education.
For many years, the victory bell rang once every morning, calling children from all over the city to come to school. It has been used to celebrate athletic victories, and it rings out at graduation time as well.
At the end of the 2022-2023 school year, the fifth-grade students will continue this tradition by ringing the victory bell, signifying their last day in school as elementary students and the 2023 seniors will ring the bell to signify their last day as a Tiger!

Every year the Kasey Program sponsored by Koorsen Fire and Security and Carmel Fire Department comes to Highland County elementary schools among many others throughout the country. Today Greenfield Elementary had the honor of having them come to our school. We want to thank the Kasey Program for teaching our children the importance of fire safety!!

Check out the information for the upcoming youth cheer camp! This opportunity is available for students in grades 1-6 and is being provided by our McClain High School cheerleaders and coaches.

Mrs.Starkey’s first grade class learned how to respond to a read aloud by following directions in the rhyme and acting it out. The students loved having a children’s theater production for each other. Then, during their “write about the text” portion of the lesson, they were challenged to come up with new rhymes to finish each line. Here is what they came up with all on their own!!

Season passes will be on sale starting Aug 23, 2022 in the New Gym Lobby at 4:00. Other times will be posted at a later date.

What a wonderful way to support one of our students and have fun! Check out the flyer for details!

First Days in First Grade are for friends, fun, and learning about each other and ourselves! -Mrs. Vesey’s class-

Today was a great first day of school! We are already anxious for tomorrow to begin! The students and teachers were all very joyful as they spent time learning about each other! We will continue to work on classroom and school rules and procedures that will ensure we have an excellent year! Don’t forget to wear your purple and gold in support of our varsity football team who will be playing their first game at Adena tomorrow evening.

Be on the lookout for free and reduced lunch applications to be sent home. Universal free lunch is NOT in place this school year. Even if you haven’t qualified for free or reduced lunch before, it is worth taking the time to complete the form. There can be benefits in addition to free meals for our district and for families! If you need assistance completing the application, we are happy to help! 😊

Tomorrow, the majority of our students will begin their first day of the 2022-2023 school year! This year our night before school story is the 2020 picture book written by Shannon Olsen, Our School is a Family. Please visit our Greenfield Elementary Facebook page to listen to our Assistant Principal, Mrs. McNeal read the story! This school year will be filled with wonderful learning opportunities and memories for all students and staff! See you in the morning!
