Mrs. Stockdale and Mrs. Eikenberry's students worked in teams to determine the parts of a plot this week.
Teamwork with a twist! Today Mrs. Eikenberry's 7th grade prodigy students worked on a team challenge where the team captain was only allowed to lead with words (no hands allowed).

Thank you to McClain High School for the invite to participate in both the Spirit March and pep rally! The middle school students were so excited, Mr. Andrews had to take a pie to the face!
🌟 **Spotlight on Mrs. Black's Classroom!** 🌟
Guess what? The tables have turned in Mrs. Black's class! Our very own classmates stepped into the shoes of teachers, becoming the guiding stars of our latest lesson on "Ten Days in a Mad-House." 📖. So, hats off 🎩 to our brave classmates who took on this challenge and showed us the beauty of learning from one another. Thanks to them, Nellie Bly's journey has taken on a whole new dimension in our minds. Together, we not only uncover stories but also unravel the potential within us!
Mrs. Penwell’s students have been learning how to write strong claims on a topic. This week’s topic focused on whether or not people should eat bugs. After looking at various pieces of evidence, the students wrote claims. They used feedback from a peer to help make their claim stronger. To add in a personal experience, students had the option of trying various flavored crickets. Salt & Vinegar, White Cheddar, and Lasagna seemed to be the favorites.
Thank you to the middle school staff members who came out and supported our seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams tonight!
Mrs. Shrout's math Success class played either Fractions Wild (similar to UNO) or Multiplication Fact War with playing cards. It got very competitive, but we had fun with fractions and multiplication facts.
Ms Thieman's classes practiced labeling the different parts of a coordinate grid.
The Snake Dance will begin and end Wednesday, September 20, at the field on S. Washington Street where the band and football teams have been practicing this year. The parade route is Washington, to Jefferson, to 6th, to South, and back to the field. Start time is 7:00 p.m.
We hope that you will come out tomorrow evening to support our students as the homecoming week festivities continue! Go Tigers!! 💜💛

What happened to the colonists of Roanoke? Ask the students in Mrs. Gall's Social Studies classes. Students investigated the mysterious disappearance using primary and secondary sources. They then wrote their assertions using text evidence.
McClain Alumni Band Reminder:
Our first big alumni rehearsal is tomorrow (Saturday) September 16! We are thrilled to be so close to renewing such an awesome tradition.
The band room will be open at 1:30p.m. for instrument pick-up.
Practice is from 2:00-3:30p.m.

Homecoming Spirit Week is next week! Please encourage your child to participate!
Ms. Collier's students participated in a couple of activities this week to practice their communication skills and their ability to assess work and leave feedback. The jigsaw and round table discussion had them reading different articles about conflict and then sharing their findings with a couple of peers. Students practiced their verbal communication skills and "listening to understand." Later, they participated in a walking review to assess other student's written responses and provide productive feedback. It's been a great start to our year!
"Roll & Highlight: A Dice-Driven Dive into Passages"📢 Attention all! In Mrs. Black's class, students are diving deep into the passage "Let ‘Em’ Play God" using a unique approach. Working collaboratively in groups, they're rolling dice that feature a range of scaffolded questions, guiding them to thoughtfully annotate the text. This innovative method is sparking new insights and fostering deeper understanding. Way to go, students! 🎲📖
