Last week, Mrs. Harper's 7th grade science classes were introduced to the periodic table through a fun candy sort exercise. Each student received a bag of assorted candy, which they used to create their own categories for sorting. After sorting their candy, students sketched their categories and wrote explanations to enhance their understanding of classification, similar to how elements are organized in the periodic table. It was a wonderfully engaging way for students to think critically and creatively about their upcoming lesson on the periodic table.

Over the past few weeks, Greenfield Middle School ag students have been hard at work participating in FFA Urban and Agricultural Soil Judging! We had over 20 students compete at the county level, and they proudly represented our school at the District 9 competition. We are thrilled to announce that McClain FFA took home first place in both soil judging divisions—Urban and Agricultura! 🏆🌱 This achievement speaks to the dedication and effort our students have put into learning about soil health and conservation practices. Not only are they developing valuable agricultural skills, but they are also building leadership and teamwork experiences that will last a lifetime.

Happening tomorrow! 😀 Please note that it is open to the community. Improved student attendance is a COMMUNITY concern as regular attendance can correlate with later outcomes such as high school graduation and work performance. It takes missing JUST 2 DAYS A MONTH to be chronically absent. 😳 We hope to see you tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. in the MHS cafetorium! 💜💛 #legacyofleadership #mcclaintigers

In Mrs. Black’s class, students engaged in a hexagonal thinking activity to connect ideas from Paul Laurence Dunbar's "Sympathy" and Nellie Bly's "Ten Days in a Mad-House." By creating hexagonal tiles representing key themes, conflicts, and characters, students explored connections such as the themes of oppression and resilience, and societal critique in both texts. This collaborative approach encouraged rich discussions and deeper understanding, allowing students to articulate how these connections illuminate broader social issues. Ultimately, the activity fostered critical thinking and empathy, enhancing their literary analysis skills and appreciation for the authors' messages.
