COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS BREAK 2024 - This year as we have in the past, we are counting down the 15 school days until break by sharing some facts about our district. This year's theme is...🥁🥁🥁 Alphabetical order! 🔠 Day 2 - B B is for Baccalaureate, Basketball, and Boys Patrol! ➡️ Some people may not realize that Baccalaureate has been held for Greenfield High School seniors and McClain High School seniors for 153 years! Pictures in this post shows scenes from Baccalaureate in 1967, 1971, and 1985. The one picture shows students descending down the marble stairs as is a long standing tradition. Do you recognize familiar faces in the other pictures? ➡️ We had to include basketball as it is such a strong part of our district's traditions, and in this post, we are going to start back at the early years. Although girls basketball wasn't an organized or sanctioned sport until the 1970s, there were many girls teams that played in inter-class or intramural leagues. Included in this post are pictures of girls teams from 1921, 1933, and then finally an official girls varsity team in 1974. The 1933 boys basketball team pictured was the last team to play as the Yellowjackets. The 1969 team and coaching staff pictures show some familiar faces. The 1922 picture of fans lined up for basketball tickets is especially cool because of the background. Look closely to see if you can pinpoint the location. ➡️ The Boys Patrol, later known as the School Boys Patrol and then Safety Patrol, was established in 1923. It remained an organized group until around 1970. The 1963 group pictured earned things such as free football game admission and passes to the Rand Theater for their safety service at the intersections of Fifth, Sixth, and Jefferson streets. 😊 #legacyofleadership #mcclaintigers

COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS BREAK 2024 - This year as we have in the past, we are counting down the 15 school days until break by sharing some facts about our district. This year's theme is...🥁🥁🥁 Alphabetical order! 🔠 Day 1 - A A is for Alma Mater, Auditorium, and Advertisements! ➡️ The McClain Alma Mater was written by McClain High School music instructor, Margaret "Barney" Beaver, in honor of Edward Lee McClain. The Alma Mater was performed by the band for the first time during the November 1, 1946 homecoming football game. Pictured are Ms. Beaver and the 1946-1947 band, which was under the leadership of Thad Gossett. ➡️ In the early days of the McClain High School auditorium, commencement was held on stage. Even in the days before the high school was constructed, it was tradition for the graduating class to present a drama as part of the commencement exercises that lasted for a few days. On June 7, 1916, the seniors presented "Quentin Durward", a play in three acts based upon Sir Walter Scott's novel of the same name to a packed auditorium. The next day, the senior girls presented an operetta. At the closing, Board of Education President Charles Davis presented all of the seniors with their diplomas. Pictured are the 1916 senior cast members and our beautiful 109-year-old auditorium. 💜💛 ➡️ Dating back to before McClain High School was constructed, the publishing of the Dragon was supported by local businesses. How fortunate are we that for over one hundred years, the community has shown such love and support for our district?! ❤️ Check out these advertisements, some of which might send you on a trip down memory lane. 😊 #legacyofleadership #mcclaintigers

Join us on Friday, December 13, 2024, to celebrate the McClain High School “new gym” turning 50 years old. The first basketball game held in the gym was played on November 26, 1974. The Tigers came out with a three-point win that day over Miami Trace. We will have a small ceremony prior to the start of the varsity boys basketball game. JV tip will be at 6:00 p.m. with varsity to follow. We would LOVE to recognize anyone who helped to construct the gymnasium, played/coached during that time, and/or had anything else to do with the establishment of the facility. Please use the link below to complete the form to be considered for recognition. Someone will be in touch with you prior to the December 13 game. https://forms.gle/6rj2GvuWVZhEbNur6 #legacyofleadership #mcclaintigers
